From the Victorian Alps

Our Story

A remarkable journey that led to the discovery of an ancient alpine aquifer beneath Victoria’s highest mountain.

Three Valleys is more than mineral water.
It is a story of place, discovery and time.

A New Beginning

A keen surfer from Victoria’s coast made a life-changing decision to move to the Victorian Alps. He purchased a small farm in Mount Beauty, in the Kiewa Valley, at the foot of Mount Bogong.

Originally planning to farm in summer and work on the ski fields in winter, circumstances changed and he began to look for new opportunities within the land.

The Discovery

Acting on local advice, the owner invited an experienced water diviner to walk the property.

Using traditional divining rods, he slowly surveyed the land, stopped, and declared with certainty:

“Drill here.”

A bore was sunk to 120 metres. At that exact point, an extraordinary alpine aquifer was discovered.

Ancient Geology

Geological studies revealed the water originates from an ancient volcanic system more than 400 million years old, naturally filtered through layers of rock.

The Meaning of Kiewa

💧 Kiewa = Sweet Water

Long before European settlement, the Kiewa Valley was home to First Nations peoples, including the Dhudhuroa, Jaithmathang and Waywurru peoples, who lived throughout the Victorian Alps for tens of thousands of years.

The name Kiewa is widely understood to derive from a First Nations word meaning “Sweet Water”. It seems fitting that a valley known as Sweet Water would one day reveal an extraordinary mineral source beneath its surface.

Why Three Valleys?

The Kiewa Valley lies between two neighbouring alpine valleys that together form a significant part of Victoria’s famous alpine region.
